Arman Chowdhury
I am a writer from Dhaka, Bangladesh, currently living in Indiana, United States. I was the Associate Fiction Editor for West Branch literary magazine (2023–2025). I have an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Notre Dame and I was named a 2024 Tennessee Williams Scholar by the Sewanee Writers' Conference. My work has been supported by the Tin House Summer Workshop and The Loft Literary Center Novel Writing Program.
My short story “Deficiency Notice” was a finalist for the 2023 Commonwealth Short Story Prize, selected by a panel of international judges from over 6,600 submissions worldwide. My essay “Eating Death” is forthcoming in The Rumpus, and my criticism has appeared in Latino Book Review.
My novel, The Native Nonpeople of Silt Island, is a literary noir set fifty years in the future on a silt island in the Bay of Bengal — centering statelessness, enslavement, and environmental collapse. It is complete and currently with publishers.
I am represented by Kanishka Gupta of Writer's Side Literary Agency throughout the Commonwealth region, including the Indian Subcontinent.
